Snippets from our projects

Pictures speak louder than words. We wanted to demonstrate our love and dedication for the community through pictures of the lives we touched.

Projects:

Behavioral change through non conditional cash transfer

An observational study was carried out in the Dhaka-based school. Children's families were given BDT 100 per family to buy fruits for their children, and the results show that they all bought fruits after the seminar on the importance of fruits, denoting a behavior change when coupling information with donations and not information alone. Fast rearing and reproducing animals as a way to self sustain
Eye camps

Shorolota Foundation has successfully conducted three eye camps, addressing the eye care needs of over 430 individuals across Gyaner Pathshala, Uttara Ladies Club Free Primary School, and Aalok Shikkhaloy. At Gyaner Pathshala, we screened 97 participants, including students (ages 5–12), parents, and staff, providing 25 prescribed glasses and 49 eye medications. The 2nd camp at Uttara Ladies Club Free Primary School on May 17 served 95 participants, distributing 19 glasses and 50 medications while identifying conditions such as allergies, conjunctivitis, and glaucoma/cataracts. The 3rd camp at Aalok Shikkhaloy on June 28 served 240 students and staff, offering comprehensive check-ups and treatments along with lunch to everyone participating in the eye camp. Each camp featured dedicated volunteer support and ended with generous meals sponsored by local restaurants, fostering community spirit. These initiatives reflect our commitment to improving vision and well-being, which continue to be of great hindrance in the community in the younger population.

Nearly 100 school dresses were contributed to the free primary and secondary schools in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, and Bagerhaat, Khulna 2023 to relieve families and lessen the burden on students post-pandemic. School lunches for one week were also provided. (In collaboration with USD Foundation).

School uniform donations
Cyclone Remal relief

Cyclone Remal devastated families all across the coastal region of Bangladesh, affecting approximately 639,000 people, among whom 274,000 are children. With extreme flooding, loss of homes, loss of belongings and even loss of lives, families struggled to survive in the wake of the disaster. To alleviate at least one dimension of the problem - scarcity of food - Shorolota Foundation, in collaboration with its ground partner USD Foundation, distributed rations to 75 families (around 300 individuals) in some of the most critically affected areas, including Char Faruki, Char Manika, Char Lokkhi, Nobinagar and Manika wards 2 and 3. USD Foundation's ground team made great efforts to travel to the worst-hit areas to ensure our rations reached those in dire need. We graciously thank our donors for making this endeavour possible.

We gave families fast reproducing and byproduct-producing animals such as goats as an initiative to self-sustain small businesses such as selling goat milk or cheese. Six families were given two goats to rear and were followed up for three years, and we saw the families had a higher income due to selling the meat and the children in the local market. Stationeries distribution to schools as post-flood relief

Shorolota's latest initiative brings us to the privilege of providing a 1000 students (3 schools and 3 madrasas in Lakkhipur and Feni) with much needed stationary (pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, and notebooks) after the devastating flood, which had rendered the children with scarce resources to continue their education. Alongside our partner USD foundation, we have also demonstrated workshops for flood-risk aversion and personal hygiene maintenance during floods. Hoping to see the kiddos again soon!
